Does Hepatitis C Treatment Fail?

Viral Vector Factors

The genetic code of the Hepatitis C virus holds a single-stranded RNA. Unlike the DNA, which has two mirror image strands, HCV RNA is actually duplicated. Due to this the chances of identifying the affected virus goes a little low in Cirrhosis cases. 

Host Factors

The host is also a major factor that contributes to non suitability of the drug or treatment failures. In some patients, the absorption power of the drugs is very well, however, for the Hepatitis C DAAs, looking at the blood levels of the group of patients, the patient with the highest levels tend to absorb 2-10x as compared to the patient with the lowest blood levels. Drugs like- Ledipasvir and Velpatasvir are more problematic in this realm as compared to the Sofosbuvir and Daclatasvir. This is why some patients are easy to cure while some remain harder to cure. This mostly relates to the patient’s background of holding a cirrhosis condition. 

Drug Factors

Few of the key drugs are a poor fit for the protein locks of a particular genotype. This can be a real problem when a patient is infected with higher level of HCV factors leading to Cirrhosis situations. In such as case, the drug may suit a few patients however; on the other hand it may not at all be suitable for the others.
